There are studies evaluated the effect of acupuncture on immune system function in patients with cancer. The results were

• Acupuncture enhanced platelet count and prevented leukocyte decrease after radiation therapy or chemotherapy.(1)
• Leukocyte phagocytosis was enhanced in patients receiveing acupuncture.
• Acupuncture significantly increased the interleukin-2 level and natural killer cell activity.
• Patients were given acupuncture while undergoing chemotherapy experienced no decline in T-lymphocyte or in natural killin cell activity, which are usually suppressed by chemotherapy
